We take Ambulatory patients to doctor's appointments, Urgent Care at main hospitals, medical clinics, dialysis 3 days a week and ER discharges.
When transporting Ambulatory passengers, we assist them to get onto the ambulette van, where the passenger is assisted to sit and fasten waist safety bells.
In this case, the passenger is not allowed to be released from a doctor's appointment unless is accompanied by a NEMT driver.
Non-ambulatory passengers will require one of Armstrong Richard's drivers to provide the member with assistive walking devices i.e. walker /wheelchairs.
Our vehicles are equipped with ADA approved powered lift ramps to load stress-free the passenger inside the vehicle and take the member to his/her doctor's appointment, weekly dialysis, hospital's ER/Observation discharge. All our vehicles are constantly cleaned and disinfected to avoid any cross-contamination.
The process to load the patient in/out of the NEMT AMBULANCE is an easy process, depending on the passenger condition and the home condition and the level of service required.
Curve to Curve - medical transportation
Door to Door - medical transportation Assistive - medical transportation.
In all of the above scenarios, the patient is wheeled to the Ambulette van, where is uplifted with a powered lift ramp, safely moved and maneuvered to inside van, secured the wheelchair to the ADA floor lock system, and secure the passenger with 2 safety belts, one crossing his/her chest, attaching it to the second belt securing the passengers by the waist.
We do 2 kinds of Gurney Transportation:
Standard Gurney 24" x 84" inches. up to 750lbs.
Bariatric Gurney 33" x 84" inches up to 750lbs.
We can take members to Urgent Care, dialysis, Dr.'s appointments, transfers from Senior's facilities to the home, or to hospice and post-acute hospitals.
The Gurney transportation services is a delicate and well specialized High-risk level of service when it comes to handling the patient.
The following scenarios could apply:
- Bedridden Patient - The patient is not able to sit or move by him/herself and requires a full assistive level of service. It will be required a minimum of 2 certified NEMT transportation assistants to transfer the patient from the bed to the gurney utilizing resources like bed transfer boards, transfer pads, and evacuation stretchers (Fabric stretcher with handles on the side).
- Self transferable patient - The patient is able to sit at the edge of the bed and a minimum of 2 assistants help to transfer the patient to the gurney.
If a member needs to go to Dr.'s office or Urgent Care/Dialysis treatment, bed-bound but transferable to a wheelchair, we can help to bring the member down the stairs and take him to the doctor. We use a powered evacuation track device, capable to lock a standard wheelchair that brings members up and down inside or outside stairs. When it comes to safely transport passengers to their appointments, we have to use several devices in order for us to transport patients to their doctor's appointments. Sometimes the passenger's bed is upstairs and family members are not able to bring them downstairs, we use the following devices : Manual Stretcher - 6feet 500lbs fabric pad with 4 to 6 handles on the side which the skilled assistants will roll, put it under the patient, between the bedsheets and the patient, move the patient from to the left/right, in order to grab the other side of the stretcher to start the process to bring the patient down where the standard/bariatric gurney will be positioned and locked to receive the passenger, transport him to the ambulette van. Powered stair evacuation lift device - This device is used when a patient with assistance can be transferred to a wheelchair, which is safely positioned and locked on the power lift stair device, bringing patient down and upstairs to be transported to their doctor's appointment either by a standard/bariatric gurney.
For the evacuation of patients from any commercial building, we can use either a powered stairs evacuation device, which is used on wide-open stair-sets, this device is capable to hold up to 500lbs, was person evacuated is carried on a wheelchair, positioned on top of the device's ramp and safely taken down/upstairs.
We can also use a stair evacuation track device, without a ramp, when stairs are not wide enough for the above to be maneuvered.
Lastly, we can use a manual stair track evacuation device, where the patient is positioned and carried on the device itself, the device could hold up to 250lbs and can only go downstairs.
This is used for evacuation where there has been a fire alarm activated or any other emergency situation, where the is no way a wheelchair will on stairs or there's no wheelchair available.
Note: We will never use Gurney's to go up or downstairs that go over 3 steps or there are more than 35 degrees inclined set of stairs. We can use stretchers with a minimum of 4 assistants for any transfer of this kind. Passengers and assistants' safety is our priority... We will not proceed to do transportation if is not safe to do so.
When passengers schedule requires us to taking them 3 or 4 times a week, we can assure you, we will be there on time ready to take the patient to his/her appointment.
The process is the same as going to the doctor's office hospital, but we need to take some extra steps to set-up and get the patient ready for dialysis treatment:
- At the dialysis facility, we take the patient to an electric floor weight scale, positioning the gurney or wheelchair onto the scale, printing the actual weight, deduct the gurney/wheelchair weight, and taking the patient to the chair where he/she is going to take the treatment.
At this point, we will leave the dialysis facility for about 3-4 hrs. and return back for the patient, again... we will do the same weight process before leaving the facility.
